Leaving a big footprint . . .
In our personal and professional lives, we want to leave a legacy – to know that we had a positive impact on others. Ideally, we could all become pundits and earn a living as consultants, educating others. Over the past 25 years in the HR profession, I have realized that knowledge in HR is largely a function of diverse experience – I have learned a great deal as businesses and workforces have evolved. While I would love to believe that this website will become a platform for a profitable consulting business, I will be satisfied with a forum attempting to leave a footprint in my narrow piece of the greater HR community.
Innovators Swim Upstream
Innovators are those who are willing to swim upstream to test the current and then are able to decide whether or not a change in the course of action is advisable. Unfortunately, most innovators are misclassified as pessimists and rebels.
A pessimist is negative because they know nothing else; a rebel is contrary to be contrary; an innovator is far too concerned about what they are trying to accomplish to worry about how they are perceived.
Words to Live By
“There are human consequences to everything you do as an HR professional. Even if justified, necessary, and appropriate, remember that an employee and her family will suffer the consequences of your decision. Let that guide and humble you.”
“There is honor in doing whatever you do well.”
“The primary role of HR is to help others make well-informed decisions about people issues.”
My Mission
Human Resources is just like any other profession. The value of HR to any organization is determined by the value it provides, both tactically and strategically. This site was borne out of a frustration with some in my chosen profession. We should focus on providing effective HR expertise and knowledge to where the profession is looked at as a business partner with an area of expertise in Human Resources.
You will find items exploring, challenging and debunking popular theories in HR, some preaching about innovative HR theories/programs/processes and a bit of venting about things that make no sense.
You are free to share the knowledge and links as long as it is attributed and about advancing HR. If you are going to make copies with some commercial purpose, just contact me and we can work out appropriate renumeration.
